When you sign up for an ouremail.com.au account you are provided with an
"email alias". This alias then forwards any email to an account that your
Internet Service Provider (ISP) has supplied you.
An example is a good way to demonstrate this.
If you use Internode to provide you
with an ADSL connection you will be provided with a
user@internode.on.net email address.
If you then sign up for an ouremail.com.au address you will then be provided
with a user@ouremail.com.au address.
Any email that is sent to
user@ouremail.com.au will be forwarded to your
user@internode.on.net account and you
will receive the email in as normal. The only change needed on your computer is
to change you email address to
user@ouremail.com.au (see the email client setup
page for this change).
Then imagine you change ISPs and use Exetel for your Internet connection.
Your user@internode.on.net will then
be de-activated and you won't be able to receive email to this account. You will
also be provided with a user@exemail.com.au
address. All you need to do is use the Management page
to set the user@ouremail.com.au account to
forward to user@exemil.com.au account.
The end result is that everyone sending you emails will be able to continue
using the user@ouremail.com.au account
without interruption and won't even know you've changed Internet Service
Providers. This allows you to change ISPs as better deals become available
without notifying everyone.
Another advantage of the system is that often ouremail.com.au is easier to
remember and vocalise than the domain name of your ISP.
If spam worries you and puts you off signing up for a permanent email address
then try CSET Technologies' Spam
Filtering service which will remove 100% of SPAM.
